License keys

Your license keys, delivered with the download.

Paste your keys into a product. FetchApp sends the next available key with each unit sold, in the same email as the download. You can see which key went to each buyer in your account.

Included on every paid plan, with no per-key or per-activation charge.

How it works

Add keys, then let FetchApp send them

Set up your list for each product and top it up as you sell.

STEP 01

Bring your own keys

Use keys from your existing generator or licensing service. FetchApp stores and delivers them in the format you already use; it does not generate keys.

STEP 02

Paste them onto the product

Open the product, choose Edit License Keys, and paste the list, one per line or comma-separated. Keys already in that pool are skipped, so pasting the same batch twice is safe and does not create duplicates.

STEP 03

Sell

Each unit sold receives the next unused key with the file. A purchase of two units uses two keys from your list.

Assignment

Which key goes to which buyer

FetchApp assigns keys in the order you loaded them, oldest first. Simultaneous orders receive different keys, and an assigned key stays with its order unless you release it.

The key is assigned when the order is created. It appears in the delivery email, on the download page, in your admin and in exports. Downloading again uses that same key.

Unassigning a key returns it to the available list. Deleting its order does the same, so check before releasing a key that a customer has already received.

Each product has a product code, called a SKU. Renaming that code keeps the product’s keys attached. Managing keys →

Quantity

One key for each unit bought

A customer who buys five units receives five keys in the email, provided enough keys are available.

Shopify has a limit on how many keys a single order line can claim. Check that limit before selling in bulk. Shopify quantity limits →

Other carts do not apply the same quantity limit. If you sell in large quantities, we can help you check your setup before you start. Ask us →

Keeping keys in stock

Check your available keys as you sell

If a product runs out of keys, the order still delivers the file, but the email has no key. FetchApp does not send you an alert or flag the order when this happens.

Two ways to stay prepared:

  • Check the unused count. Find it on the product’s key screen. You can also include it in your templates.
  • Match your store’s stock to your keys. Set the product’s inventory in your store to the number of keys available, so the store stops selling when they run out.

Records

Find and export key assignments

Open a customer’s order to find the key they received.

Export keys for a product or your whole account, choosing used keys, unused keys or both. Your orders export also includes a license-key column, so you can compare it with your own records or take those records with you when you leave.

If you have a developer, the API can load keys in bulk, list them, unassign them and read them by order. This can connect a key generator you already use to FetchApp. Key management and exports →

Delivery and activation

Using FetchApp with a licensing service

FetchApp stores your keys, delivers an available key with each unit sold and records which buyer received it.

For key generation, validation, activation, seat counting or machine restrictions, use a separate licensing service. FetchApp does not perform those checks or prevent a file opening without a key. You can load keys from that service into FetchApp for delivery.

Key delivery is included on every paid plan, with no per-key, per-activation or per-seat charge. Your plan has an allowance for the keys you can hold at once. Plan allowances → · Compare plans →

License key questions

Common questions

Can FetchApp generate keys for me?

FetchApp delivers keys you provide. Generate them with your existing tool or licensing service, then paste them into the product.

How do I load a lot of keys at once?

Paste the list into the product, one key per line or separated by commas. The key screen accepts pasted text rather than a file upload. Developers can load larger lists through the API. Loading keys →

What if I paste the same batch twice?

Keys already in that product’s list are skipped, so pasting the same batch again does not create duplicates.

Can two buyers get the same key?

Each order receives a different available key, even when orders arrive at the same time. Unassigning a key or deleting its order makes that key available again.

Does a buyer get a new key if they re-download?

No. The key belongs to the order from the moment it was created, so re-downloading, resending and reopening all show the same key.

Are keys included, or charged separately?

Key delivery is included on every paid plan, with no per-key or per-activation charge. Your plan has an allowance for how many keys you can hold at once. Key allowances → · Compare plans →

See how a key reaches your customer.

Key delivery is included on paid plans. Add a product, attach a file and paste in a few keys, then send yourself a test order to see the email and download page.
