Products and files

Upload once, sell it everywhere.

Upload a file once and use it in several products, from a single sample pack to a bundle. Keep one copy to update as your catalogue grows.

Digital and physical can live in the same store. FetchApp only touches the digital half.

Your catalogue

Connect each product to its files

Each product has a product code, called a SKU. Use the same code in your store and FetchApp. When your store sends an order, FetchApp matches the code and delivers the files attached to that product.

One PDF can belong to a single-issue product, a bundle and a subscriber edition without being uploaded again. A product can also contain several files. Updating a shared file updates it for every product that uses it.

Renaming a SKU in FetchApp keeps its files, license keys and past orders attached. Remember to keep the code in your store matched too.

The SKU has to match exactly

Use the same characters, capital letters and spacing in both places. TSHIRT-01 and tshirt-01 are different codes.

An order item with no matching SKU is skipped. If nothing matches, no delivery email is sent. Place a test order after changing your catalogue to check that the right files arrive. Matching SKUs, step by step →

Adding products

Three ways to build it

Import from Shopify. Pull your existing products into FetchApp without retyping their SKUs. Shopify setup →

Add products by hand. For a smaller catalogue, create each product in your admin, upload its files and attach them.

Connect through the API. A developer can create products and attach files from a system you already use. API guide →

Uploading a file and attaching it to a product are separate steps. You can upload your library first, then choose the files for each product.

Your own storage

If you would rather host the files yourself

On an eligible plan, switch your account to use your own storage and give FetchApp a file’s URL instead of uploading it. Your buyer receives a FetchApp link that counts the download before forwarding them to the file.

Your files stay with your storage provider, which bills you separately. FetchApp cannot expire the original link on storage you control, so time limits do not protect that link. Downloads through FetchApp are still counted. Own-storage settings →

If you host files with FetchApp instead, your plan determines how much you can store. Compare storage plans →

Mixed catalogues

Selling digital and physical together

Your shop can sell a magazine and its back issues, a craft kit and its instructions, or a record and its download.

FetchApp delivers the products whose SKUs match your digital catalogue. Physical items continue through your usual shipping process. On Shopify, FetchApp can mark the digital items fulfilled while you prepare the physical items for dispatch. Shopify fulfilment settings → · Customer shops →

After it is published

Send customers a new version

Replace a file when you release a software update, correct a pattern or add to a sample pack. New buyers receive the new version.

For past buyers, use the separate update action. It reopens their orders and resets expiry and download counts to your current defaults, making the new file available. This also reopens orders for buyers who opted out of update emails; only buyers who opted in receive the message.

Updates are limited per order, so running the same update twice in a day does not send it twice. Check the result of the first update before starting another.

Before your first sale

Make the download easy to use

Zip a group of files together. A ZIP keeps folders intact and helps the browser save the download rather than display its contents. It also gives your buyer one file to save instead of several separate links.

Download your file after uploading it. Place a test order and open the download as your buyer would. This checks the upload, the product’s attached files and the delivery email together. Place a test order →

Catalogue questions

Common questions

Can one file be sold as several products?

Yes. A bundle, a single product and a subscriber edition can all use the same file. Updating that shared file updates it for each product.

How many files can one product have?

As many as it needs. For a larger group of files, a ZIP often gives buyers an easier download than a long list of links.

Do you support physical products?

FetchApp delivers the digital lines and leaves the rest to your cart, so a mixed order works without you separating anything. Your shipping flow is untouched.

What if I change a file after people have bought it?

New buyers receive the new version. Use the update action to make it available to past buyers too: this reopens their orders and resets their download limits, then emails those who opted in.

Can I import my catalogue from somewhere else?

You can import products directly from Shopify. For another platform, contact us to plan the move; catalogue creation is also available through the API. Plan your move →

Is bandwidth metered?

No. Your plan is based on stored files, with no per-gigabyte download charge. If you expect a lot of download traffic, contact us so we can plan capacity with you. Bandwidth details →

Upload one file and sell it to yourself.

Create a free account, add a product and attach a file. A test order lets you check the email and download before sharing the product with customers.
