Connect FetchApp to Shopify, match product codes, add download links to your store, and get help with orders, fulfillment and license keys.

Connect FetchApp to Shopify to deliver digital files after checkout. This guide covers setup, product matching, download links and help with orders. For an overview, see the Shopify integration page.

Install

Install from the Shopify App Store. Follow the prompts to connect your store and approve billing through your Shopify invoice. FetchApp sets up the order notifications automatically.

Already have a FetchApp account? Open Settings → Integrations in that account and activate Shopify there. This keeps your products and billing together rather than creating a second account. The sign-in guide can help you find it.

What the app asks for, and why

Access What FetchApp does with it
Read products Import your catalogue so you do not have to enter each product again
Write orders Mark digital items fulfilled after delivery
Read all orders Find orders when processing recent order notifications
Merchant-managed fulfillment Fulfil digital items while leaving physical shipping to you

Shopify sends automatic order notifications, called webhooks, to FetchApp. You can refresh the connection from Settings → Integrations → refresh webhooks if needed. For developers: FetchApp registers orders/paid and app/uninstalled, plus orders/create when delivery regardless of payment status is enabled.

Import your catalogue

Open Products → Product Import to bring in your Shopify products. Both physical and digital products are imported. Attach files to the products you want FetchApp to deliver; importing the product does not attach its files.

You can leave physical products without files, or remove them from FetchApp using Products → Purge Products → only products without files. Before purging, make sure you have attached files to all the digital products you want to keep.

SKU matching

A SKU is the product code FetchApp uses to match an item in Shopify with its files. Each digital variant needs its own SKU and a FetchApp product with the same code, including capitals and spaces:

Shopify variant: Deluxe edition SKU: FIELDGUIDE-DLX
FetchApp product: Deluxe edition SKU: FIELDGUIDE-DLX

If the codes do not match, the item will not be delivered and Shopify will not show a matching error. Copy the code from one system to the other, then place a test order. See quickstart step 5 for more examples.

On the order-status page: In Shopify, open Settings → Checkout, select the theme and enable the FetchApp app block. Customers can then find their download links on the thank-you and order-status pages as well as in their delivery email.

On your own domain: FetchApp can display the order lookup and download pages within your Shopify store, using its domain and theme. This uses Shopify’s app proxy, which checks each request before passing it to FetchApp.

Finding an order later: Customers can also visit https://<handle>.fetchapp.com/orders and enter their checkout email address and order number. Share this link if someone has lost their delivery email.

Fulfillment

Turn on Settings → General Settings → automatically fulfill line items to have FetchApp mark digital items fulfilled after delivery. Physical items remain ready for you to ship.

If downloads arrive but the digital items stay unfulfilled, your Shopify location may need to be linked to FetchApp. Send support the address of your Shipping origin location page, found in Shopify’s Settings → Locations, and we can help.

Help with orders

Try these checks before reinstalling the app. Refreshing the connection may be all you need.

1 · The order never reached FetchApp

Search for the order number in Orders. If it is missing, open Settings → Integrations → refresh webhooks and place another test order. FetchApp also re-checks recent notifications and creates orders it received but did not process. Contact support if the order is still missing.

2 · The order arrived and nothing was delivered

Check that the product codes match exactly and that the FetchApp product has an attached file. A license-key product also needs a file, such as a text file with activation instructions.

3 · The order arrived marked unpaid

PayPal Express, subscription apps and bundle apps may create orders without sending the usual paid-order notification. Ask support to help check your setup.

The setting deliver orders regardless of payment status, under Settings → General Settings, can help with these connections. It also allows delivery before payment, so make sure that is what you want before enabling it. If a bundle app sends several products as one item, contact support to arrange the account setup before selling the bundle.

4 · A large order has fewer keys than expected

One Shopify line item can deliver up to 100 license keys. A single line for 250 units will deliver 100 keys without an error or warning. Split larger quantities into separate line items, each within the limit, or talk to support before offering them. See license keys for more on quantities and available keys.

Next: place a 100%-off test order through your store and follow quickstart step 8 to check the delivery.
